The problem

The clip looks good, but it says nothing

Most restaurant clips go out with a trending track and nothing else: a shot of melting cheese, then the logo.

  1. The viewer sees the dish but not its name, its price or the fact that the offer ends on Friday, and keeps scrolling.

  2. Recording a voice in a restaurant is hard. There is the kitchen and the extractor fan, an owner who dislikes the sound of their own voice, and a staff member reading the offer like a receipt. Hiring a voice artist for a twenty-second clip does not add up when you post three clips a week.

  3. And the menu never stands still. A seasonal dish this week, a lunch deal the next, a delivery discount at the end of the month. Each change needs a new clip the same day, before the offer goes cold.

Why Vocla

Why Vocla for food advertising

  • The dialect of your city

A customer in Jeddah does not order the way one in Cairo or Beirut does. Choose Saudi, Egyptian, Lebanese, Emirati, Kuwaiti or another dialect, and write the offer in the words people actually use at your tables.

  • A delivery that sounds appetising

Raise expressiveness a little and add a pause before the description of the dish, so words like crispy and charcoal-grilled come out with the tone they deserve, not the tone of a news bulletin.

  • Dish names said the way people say them

English words inside an Arabic sentence are read, such as specialty coffee drinks and burger names. If a local dish name stumbles, add tashkeel or save it in the pronunciation dictionary once and it is read correctly in every clip after that.

  • Today's offer goes out today

Price changed, or the seasonal dish is over? Edit the line and generate again in a minute, in the same voice your followers already know.

  • Commercial rights from Starter

A restaurant ad is commercial use. The Starter plan and above give you commercial usage rights and WAV export; the Free plan is for personal trials only.

How it works

From a shot of the dish to a clip that speaks

  1. Step 1

Watch the clip and time it

A fifteen-second clip holds about thirty Arabic words. Note the moment the finished dish appears, because that is when its name should be said.

  2. Step 2

Open with the dish, not the restaurant's name

The first seconds belong to the senses: texture, smell, how it is cooked. Then the offer and the price written as words, and last the restaurant and the district. One sentence per shot.

  3. Step 3

Pick a voice that sounds like your place

A fast, young voice for a burger joint, a calmer one for a specialty café or a family restaurant. Try two on the opening line and keep one for all your clips.

  4. Step 4

    Generate and match the length

Play the result against the clip. If the voice runs ahead of the picture, add a pause; if it lags, cut a spare adjective or raise the speed a notch.

  5. Step 5

Download the file and lay it in

Download the MP3 or WAV, place it under the clip in the editing app on your phone, lower the music beneath it, then post it yourself. Vocla does not publish directly to social platforms.

Cost

What does a restaurant clip cost to voice?

Food clips are short, which works in your favour. Cost follows the number of characters, and a twenty-second clip needs only a few hundred, a small fraction of the per-thousand-character rate of 800 to 1,200 credits depending on the model. You see what a generation will use before you press the button.

Because the ad is for a business, you need the Starter plan or higher at $4.99 a month; its 5,000 credits cover several short clips a month, with top-ups for busy seasons. Audition voices and dialects first on the Free plan and its 500͏ credits a month, for personal use only.

The numbers

Quick maths

Worked example: a 30-second script is about 400 to 600 credits.

  • Free plan: 500͏ credits a month for text to speech, with MP3 downloads, for personal use only.
  • Text to speech uses 800 to 1,200 credits per 1,000 characters, depending on the model. 1,000 characters is about one spoken minute, and tashkeel marks are never counted.
  • Commercial usage rights and WAV export start with Starter: $4.99 a month with 5,000 credits.

Figures use the current plans and default credit rates. The exact cost is always shown in the app before you confirm.

Publishing this for a business?

The Free plan is for personal use and evaluation. Audio and video you publish for a brand, a client or a monetised channel need commercial usage rights, which start with the Starter plan.

Questions people ask

Can I make a voice-over for my restaurant ad for free?

You can try it at no cost: the demo on this page reads up to 200 characters with no sign-up, and the Free plan gives you 500͏ credits a month for personal use. Publishing the clip as an ad for your restaurant is commercial use and needs the Starter plan or higher.

Which Arabic dialect should a restaurant ad use?

The dialect of the neighbourhood your customers come from. A local restaurant speaks its city's dialect, and a chain with branches in several countries generates the same script in each market's dialect. Modern Standard Arabic suits fine dining and formal opening invitations more than daily offer clips.

How many words do I need for a 15-second reel?

About thirty Arabic words at a slightly quick pace, and fewer if you want to leave a moment for the sound of the grill or the coffee being poured. Write less than you think you need, then check the file against the clip and add a sentence if there is room.

Does the audio post straight to Reels or Snapchat?

No. There is no direct connection to social platforms or editing apps. You download the MP3 or WAV, add it to the clip in whichever editing app you use, then post from your own account like any other clip.

Will it pronounce English dish names correctly?

English words inside an Arabic sentence are read. If you want one particular pronunciation for a dish or for your restaurant's name, add it to the pronunciation dictionary, or spell it in Arabic letters the way your customers say it, and listen before you approve it.

Can I use my own voice for my restaurant's ads?

Yes, with voice cloning, available from the Starter plan. You record a clean sample of your voice of at least 10 seconds, and the cloned voice then reads your offers in your own dialect. You may only clone your own voice or a voice whose owner has given written permission.
