The short answer

How do you make a cartoon character voice with AI?

Open Vocla text to speech, pick a voice from the Cartoon category, write a short line, choose the dialect and an emotion such as excited or whispering, then generate and download the MP3 or WAV. To voice a whole cartoon instead, describe your idea in Vocla Cartoon Studio: the studio writes the script and gives every character its own Cartoon voice, which you can audition and change when you approve the cast, before anything is charged.

What is a cartoon voice generator?

A cartoon voice generator is an AI text-to-speech tool with voices made for animated characters: exaggerated pitch, quick comic timing and big emotions. You type the line, choose the character voice and the delivery, and it returns a finished voice-over you can drop into an animation, a game or a story.

The casting board

Six cartoon voice archetypes and how to direct them

Every cartoon cast is built from a few classic roles. Here is how each one should sound, with a line to try in Arabic and in English.

  • The hero

    Brave, warm, always moving forward
    PitchMid
    PaceFast
    EnergyExplosive

Direction: Mid pitch, bright and forward. Short, punchy sentences, and let the end of the line rise instead of falling.

Arabic: «ما راح أستسلم! يلا يا شباب، المغامرة بدت!»

English: “I'm not giving up! Come on, team, the adventure starts now!”

  • The villain

    Sly, theatrical, enjoys every word
    PitchLow
    PaceSlow
    EnergyLively

Direction: Low and slow. Let the pauses do the work and smile through the threat. Save the shout for the very last word.

Arabic: «أخيرًا… وقعتوا في الفخ. هاهاها!»

English: “At last… you walked right into my trap. Mwahaha!”

  • The little kid

    Curious, loud, full of questions
    PitchHigh
    PaceFast
    EnergyExplosive

Direction: High, quick and curious. Use questions, giggles and repeated words (“please, please, please!”).

Arabic: «ماما ماما! شفتي؟ النجمة طاحت في حديقتنا!»

English: “Mum, Mum! Did you see? A star fell in our garden!”

  • The wise narrator

Warm storyteller who sets the scene
    PitchLow
    PaceSlow
    EnergyCalm

Direction: Warm and even, a little slower than everyday speech. Longer sentences work here: the narrator paints the picture.

    Arabic: «في قديم الزمان، في قريةٍ بين الجبال، عاش فتىً لا يخاف المطر.»

English: “Long ago, in a village between the mountains, lived a boy who was not afraid of the rain.”

  • The funny sidekick

    Fast, clumsy, surprised by everything
    PitchHigh
    PaceFast
    EnergyExplosive

Direction: Elastic and fast. Interjections, sound words and comic timing: one beat of silence before the punchline.

    Arabic: «ووووه! استنوني! أنا جاي… آه، رجلي علقت!»

English: “Whoa! Wait for me! I'm coming… oops, my foot's stuck!”

  • The robot

    Precise, deadpan, secretly kind
    PitchMid
    PaceSteady
    EnergyCalm

Direction: Even pitch and clipped words, almost no emotion, then one surprisingly human moment. Write the beeps into the line.

Arabic: «تم التحليل. نسبة النجاح: تسعة وتسعون بالمئة. بيب بوب!»

English: “Analysis complete. Chance of success: ninety-nine percent. Beep boop!”

Emotion and delivery

Six emotions that make a cartoon line come alive

In Cartoon Studio every line carries its own emotion, set when the script is written and editable when you review it. In text to speech you add a delivery direction (excited, whisper, shout, laugh…) to the line.

  • Excited

Higher, faster, bigger. Exclamation marks and short bursts.

Try it“Yaaay! We won the cup!”

  • Scared

Shaky and breathless. Broken words and stammers: “w-w-what was that?”

    Try it“W-w-who's there? Eek!”

  • Whispering

Quiet and close to the ear. Perfect for secrets and sneaking scenes.

Try it“Shhh… the monster's asleep. Don't wake it.”

  • Shouting

Full volume, one line only. Too many shouts in a row tire the ear.

    Try it“RUUUN! The boulder's coming!”

  • Sad

Slower, softer, falling at the end. Leave room for a sigh.

Try it“He left… without even saying goodbye.”

  • Sly

Smooth, slow and smiling. Stretch the key word and drop to a near-whisper.

Try it“You want the treasure? Come… a little closer.”

Arabic cartoon dubbing

Classic standard Arabic or a modern dialect?

The cartoons a whole generation grew up with were dubbed in Modern Standard Arabic. Today's comedy channels speak Gulf and Egyptian. Choose the sound that fits your story.

StyleHow it feelsBest forExample line
Modern Standard Arabic (classic dub)The 90s after-school TV sound: theatrical, warm and timelessAdventures, fables, epic series and kids' education across every Arab country«هيا بنا يا أصدقائي، فالمغامرة لم تنتهِ بعد!»
Gulf (Saudi, Emirati, Kuwaiti…)Close, local and funny, like family talking at homeModern comedy, sketches, brand mascots and shorts for the Gulf«وش ذا؟ مين خرّب الكيكة؟!»
EgyptianQuick, playful and full of comic timingSlapstick and comedy for audiences across the Arab world«يا نهار أبيض! القطة كلت السندوتش بتاعي!»
LevantineSoft, friendly and everydayFamily stories, kids' content and light drama«شو عم تعمل هون؟ يلا تعا نلعب!»
EnglishClear and expressiveInternational channels and bilingual learning«Hold on to your hats, it's going to be a bumpy ride!»

Rule of thumb: Use classic Modern Standard Arabic when the story should feel timeless and reach every Arab country. Use a dialect when the joke depends on how people really talk. You can also mix them: a Modern Standard Arabic narrator with characters who speak Gulf dialect.

Writing for voice

How to write lines that sound animated

The voice can only perform what the script gives it. Six habits of cartoon writers:

  1. Keep lines short

4 to 12 words, one idea per line. A long line sounds like a lecture, not a cartoon.
  2. Open with an interjection

“Hey!”, “Whoa!”, «يا ساتر!», «هاه؟» tell the voice the emotion before the words arrive.
  3. Write the sound words

«ووووه!», «هاهاها», “Mwahaha”, “Uh-oh”. Leave crashes and boings to the sound-effects track.
  4. Punctuate like a director

“!” for energy, “…” for a pause, “?!” for disbelief. Stretch letters for drawn-out words: «لاااا!»
  5. Give each character a habit

A catchphrase, a laugh or a way of saying hello makes a character recognisable by ear alone.
  6. Read it out loud

If you run out of breath, split the line. If it sounds flat, add a reaction word.

FlatI am very surprised that the cake has disappeared from the kitchen table.

AnimatedWait… WHAT?! Where's the cake?!

Flatأنا متفاجئ جدًا لأن الكعكة اختفت من على طاولة المطبخ.

Animatedلحظة… شنو؟! وين راحت الكيكة؟!

Sound words that work

  • ووووه!
  • هاهاها
  • يا ساتر!
  • أوووف
  • هاه؟!
  • ياااي!
  • إممم…
  • Whoa!
  • Mwahaha
  • Uh-oh
  • Yay!
  • Phew!
  • Eek!
  • Ta-da!

Up to 3 minutes: Vocla Cartoon Studio makes episodes of 20 seconds to 3 minutes, up to 60 seconds on Creator and up to 3 minutes on Professional, Business and Enterprise. Details at voclalabs.com/en/ai-cartoon-maker.

How do I make a cartoon character voice with AI?
