01Before you design: get the details right first

The hardest part of a wedding invitation isn't the design; it's getting every detail right: the groom's name and his father's, the bride's name or her family's depending on your family's custom, the day, the date and the venue. One wrong letter in a name means resending to hundreds of guests, so write everything in a note on your phone and check it with the family before you design anything.

• Names as the family wants them: some families print the bride's name, some write «daughter of» her father, some use first names only.
• Day and date: Gregorian, or Hijri and Gregorian together, with the digits written exactly as you want them.
• Venue and city: the hall name on the card; the full address and map link in the message.
• Time and event: the men's celebration, the women's, or both at different times.
• Guest notes: such as «kindly no children» or «personal invitation», which belong in the message, not on the card.

The wording sets the tone before the design does. These are widely used formats with fictional names; change them for your family. Formal invitations are usually in Modern Standard Arabic, while the WhatsApp message that goes with the card can be in dialect:

03Names in quotation marks: the trick that makes it work

05WhatsApp card or printed card: shape and resolution

Digital and printed invitations differ in shape and resolution, so decide at the start:

06Proofread before you send

Even with the best lettering quality, AI can slip on a letter or a dot, and you don't want to find out after the card has reached the whole family group. A quick checklist:

1. 1Zoom in: check every name letter by letter, especially dots and hamzas.
2. 2Match the numbers: day and date against the calendar, and the right year.
3. 3View it on a phone: open it on a small screen and make sure the lettering reads.
4. 4Show someone else: fresh eyes catch the mistake yours have stopped seeing.
5. 5Fix only the error: on Creator or above, use Edit with «change the name to «سارة» and keep everything else» instead of redesigning.
