On TikTok, the first line of your video does most of the work. Viewers decide very quickly whether to keep watching, usually within the first couple of seconds, before the payoff, the product or the call to action has a chance to land. For Arabic audiences there is one more lever in that moment: dialect. A hook spoken the way the viewer actually talks says "this is for you" before the sentence is even finished, while the same idea in stiff formal Arabic can sound like an advert from somewhere else.

This post gives you 30 ready-to-adapt TikTok hooks in seven varieties of Arabic, each with an English equivalent and a note on when to use it. They are short enough to say in about two seconds and cover food, real estate, e-commerce, education, travel, fitness, tech and beauty. Use them as starting points: swap the city, the product or the number to fit your video.

What makes a hook work

Before the list, four rules that every hook below follows:

  1. It fits in about two seconds. That usually means four to seven words, said briskly. If you need a breath in the middle, it is too long.
  2. It carries one idea. One question, one problem or one promise. A hook that tries to say two things says neither.
  3. It uses a proven shape. A question the viewer wants answered, a number ("three mistakes"), a contrast ("cheaper than you think") or a clear promise ("here's how").
  4. It matches the video. The hook is a promise, and the next scenes have to keep it. A hook that misleads may stop the scroll once, but viewers learn to skip you. No fake giveaways, no invented results.

Write the hook in the dialect itself, not in Modern Standard Arabic with a dialect voice on top. The word choice is what makes it sound local. If you are unsure which dialect fits your audience, read how to choose a dialect for your Arabic ads first.

Saudi hooks

Direct and relaxed, with everyday words like وش, ليش, تبي, مرة and كذا. Hear the voices on the Saudi dialect page.

  1. «وش السر اللي يخلي الكبسة كذا؟» "What's the secret that makes kabsa taste like this?" Question hook, food.
  2. «تبي شقة بالرياض؟ لا توقّع قبل تشوف هذا» "Looking for an apartment in Riyadh? Don't sign before you see this." Warning hook, real estate.
  3. «هالعطر مرة ثابت، وسعره بيفاجئك» "This perfume lasts really long, and the price will surprise you." Contrast hook, e-commerce.
  4. «ثلاث إعدادات بجوالك لازم تغيّرها الحين» "Three phone settings you need to change right now." Number hook, tech.
  5. «تمشي كل يوم ووزنك ما تغيّر؟ هذا ليش» "You walk every day and your weight hasn't changed? Here's why." Problem hook, fitness.

Emirati hooks

Emirati speech leans on شو, وايد, جي and عسب. Keep the setting local, Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, so the viewer recognises it instantly.

  1. «شو أحسن مكان للفطور في دبي؟» "What's the best breakfast spot in Dubai?" Question hook, food and travel.
  2. «وايد ناس يغلطون جي لما يشترون سيارة» "A lot of people make this mistake when buying a car." Mistake hook, e-commerce.
  3. «عسب تتعلم إنجليزي أسرع، جرّب هالطريقة» "To learn English faster, try this method." Promise hook, education.
  4. «قبل لا تستأجر في دبي، اعرف هالثلاث أشياء» "Before you rent in Dubai, know these three things." Number hook, real estate.

Kuwaiti hooks

They are close to Emirati in feel but the vocabulary differs, and Kuwaiti viewers notice.

  1. «شنو أطيب برقر بالكويت؟ جربت وايد» "What's the best burger in Kuwait? I've tried a lot." Question hook, food.
  2. «إشلون تنظّم وقتك وانت تدرس وتشتغل؟» "How do you manage your time while studying and working?" How-to hook, education.
  3. «أبي أوريكم شي غيّر تمريني بالكامل» "I want to show you something that changed my workout completely." Personal hook, fitness.
  4. «ليش محد قال لنا جذي عن العناية بالشعر؟» "Why did nobody tell us this about hair care?" Curiosity hook, beauty.

Egyptian hooks

Egyptian Arabic is understood widely across the region, which makes it a strong choice for entertainment, food and lifestyle. Listen to samples on the Egyptian dialect page.

  1. «ازاي تعمل كشري زي المحلات في البيت؟» "How do you make shop-style koshari at home?" How-to hook, food.
  2. «عشان تشتري أونلاين من غير ما تتنصب، اعمل كده» "To shop online without getting scammed, do this." Promise hook, e-commerce.
  3. «خلاص، بطّل تذاكر بالطريقة دي» "Enough. Stop studying this way." Pattern-interrupt hook, education.
  4. «إيه رأيك في شقة بالسعر ده في التجمع؟» "What do you think of an apartment at this price in Fifth Settlement?" Question hook, real estate.
  5. «دهب حلوة أوي، بس محدش بيقولك على ده» "Dahab is really beautiful, but nobody tells you this." Curiosity hook, travel.

Jordanian hooks

Both Jordanian and Lebanese voices sit under the Levantine dialect page.

  1. «بدك منسف زي تبع ستّك؟ هاي الطريقة» "Want mansaf like your grandma's? Here's how." Promise hook, food.
  2. «شو بتعمل إذا صار لابتوبك بطيء هيك؟» "What do you do when your laptop gets this slow?" Problem hook, tech.
  3. «كتير ناس بتغلط بهاد التمرين، انتبه» "Lots of people get this exercise wrong. Watch out." Mistake hook, fitness.
  4. «هلأ وقت البترا، قبل ما يبلّش الحر» "Now is the time for Petra, before the heat starts." Timing hook, travel.

Lebanese hooks

They suit beauty, fashion and hospitality aimed at Lebanon and the wider Levant.

  1. «هيدا المحل بيعمل أطيب منقوشة ببيروت» "This shop makes the best manousheh in Beirut." Bold-claim hook, food.
  2. «بدّك بشرة منيحة بالصيف؟ ابلشي من هون» "Want good skin this summer? Start here." Promise hook, beauty.
  3. «شو بتلبسي بعرس بالصيف؟ تلات أفكار» "What to wear to a summer wedding? Three ideas." Number hook, e-commerce and fashion.
  4. «هلق فهمت ليش هالتطبيق كتير مشهور» "Now I finally get why this app is so popular." Realisation hook, tech.

Modern Standard Arabic hooks

Use MSA when one video has to work across several countries, or when the content is educational or news-style. Keep it formal but short, so it still sounds spoken rather than read.

  1. «ثلاث عادات صباحية تساعدك على التركيز» "Three morning habits that help you focus." Number hook, education.
  2. «هل تعرف لماذا تنفد بطارية هاتفك بسرعة؟» "Do you know why your phone battery drains so fast?" Question hook, tech.
  3. «قبل أن تشتري عقارك الأول، اسأل هذا السؤال» "Before you buy your first property, ask this question." Warning hook, real estate.
  4. «هكذا تخطط لرحلة قصيرة بميزانية محدودة» "Here's how to plan a short trip on a tight budget." How-to hook, travel.

How to test your hooks

A hook is the cheapest part of a video to change and the part most worth testing. A simple routine:

  1. Write two or three versions of the opening line. Try a question, a number and a contrast for the same idea. Keep the rest of the script identical so you know the hook is the only thing that changed.
  2. Check the length before you render. Paste the script into the TikTok script planner. It estimates the spoken duration and flags a hook that runs longer than about two seconds, so you can trim it before spending any video time.
  3. Regenerate only the first scene. In Vocla Video, the script becomes a voiceover in your chosen dialect, the scenes are timed to that voice at three to eight seconds each, and you approve a storyboard before anything renders. Once the video exists, you can regenerate one scene on its own, so swapping the hook does not mean rebuilding the whole clip.
  4. Post the versions and compare. Keep the hook that holds viewers past the opening, and note which shape worked for your audience. Over time you will see whether your followers respond more to questions, numbers or promises.

Burned-in Arabic captions help the hook work with the sound off. Bold or karaoke style keeps the first words readable on a small screen, and the MP4 exports in 9:16 for TikTok. Starter ($4.99/mo) gives you 30 seconds of video a month at up to 15 seconds per video, enough for a few hook tests, with a watermark. Professional ($29/mo) gives you 300 seconds a month, up to 60 seconds per video, 1080p and no watermark.
