How to make an Arabic voiceover for Reels in 5 minutes

Five steps from hook to captioned vertical video: write the script, pick a dialect and voice, generate, mix it under your edit, and add Arabic karaoke captions.

Short vertical videos live or die in the first two seconds, and on Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts the voice does a lot of that work. You do not need a microphone, a quiet room or a voice actor to make an Arabic voiceover that holds attention. This is a five-step workflow you can run in about five minutes once your script is ready, from hook to captioned vertical video.

Before you start: what you need

  • A video edit, even a rough one, so you know roughly how long the voiceover should be.
  • A free Vocla account for text to speech. The Free plan is for personal projects; if the Reel is for a brand or a client, or the account is monetized, use a paid plan, which includes commercial rights.
  • Your editing app of choice, such as CapCut, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Step 1: write the hook first (1 minute)

Write the first line before anything else, and make it do one of three things: ask a question, make a surprising claim you will back up, or promise a payoff.

  • «تعرف ليش قهوتك تطلع مرّة كل مرة؟» (Saudi)
  • «الغلطة دي بتبوّظ صورك من غير ما تاخد بالك.» (Egyptian)
  • «Three things nobody tells you before your first trip to AlUla.»

Then write the rest in short, spoken lines. A few practical limits:

  • Length: Reels are short, so write less than you think. Read the script aloud with a timer, then generate once and trim until the voiceover fits the video.
  • One idea per line, because each line will become a caption.
  • End with a clear action: follow, save, comment, visit the link.

Write in the dialect you want to hear. A Saudi voice reading formal Arabic still sounds formal. If your script includes prices, names or English terms, our guide to writing scripts for Arabic TTS shows how to write them so they are read correctly.

Step 2: choose the dialect and voice (1 minute)

Match the dialect to the audience, not to yourself. A Reel aimed at Riyadh should sound Saudi; one aimed at Cairo should sound Egyptian; a pan-Arab educational Reel can use a light Modern Standard Arabic.

In the voice library, filter by dialect and play two or three samples. For short-form content, look for a voice with energy and clear consonants; it will be heard on phone speakers, often with music underneath. If you post regularly, pick one voice and keep it, so your followers recognise you before they see your face or logo.

Not sure which dialect fits? Our article on choosing a dialect for ads applies to Reels too.

Step 3: generate and fine-tune (1 minute)

Paste the script into text to speech, pick the voice and generate. Then listen once, start to finish, with the video playing if you can.

Typical fixes:

  • Too slow for the cut? Raise the speed slightly, or cut a line. Shorter scripts almost always beat faster delivery.
  • A word misread? Add tashkeel to that one word, or add it to your pronunciation dictionary if it will come up again, such as your brand name.
  • Flat delivery? Try a more expressive setting, or rewrite the line with punctuation that gives it shape: a question mark, an exclamation, a comma before the punchline.

Diacritics are not counted toward your credits, so fixing pronunciation costs nothing extra.

Step 4: put it under the video (1 minute)

Download the audio. MP3 is available on every plan and WAV on paid plans; use WAV if you will add music and want the cleanest mix. Drop it into your editor, line up the cuts with the sentences, and add background music at a low level so the voice stays on top. If you need a track, Vocla's music generator creates instrumental tracks from a prompt.

Export the video. It does not need to be vertical yet if your source footage is horizontal; the next step can reframe it.

Step 5: add Arabic captions and reframe to 9:16 (1 minute plus rendering)

Most people watch Reels with the sound off at least some of the time, so captions are not optional. Upload the exported video to AI captions. Vocla transcribes it, and because the voice came from your own script, there is very little to correct.

Then:

  • Pick a style. Karaoke, where each word lights up as it is spoken, suits fast-paced Reels; Bold or Boxed suit busy backgrounds; Clean and Minimal suit calm, educational content.
  • Reframe to 9:16 if the source was horizontal. Captions are lifted above the platform's buttons on vertical video.
  • Check the preview, then render. The captioned MP4 is saved to your library, and you can also export SRT or VTT if you prefer to upload captions separately.

Arabic captions are rendered right to left with proper letter shaping, so you do not have to fight your editor's text tool.

A quick checklist before you post

  • Does the hook land in the first two seconds, with sound off as well as on?
  • Is every caption line short enough to read at a glance?
  • Is the voice clearly louder than the music on a phone speaker?
  • Does the last line tell viewers what to do?
  • If the Reel is commercial, are you on a plan that includes commercial use?

Making it a routine

The five-minute version is for one Reel. The real benefit shows when you post several a week: keep a template script structure (hook, three points, call to action), one voice, one caption style and one music mood, and every new Reel becomes a matter of writing the script. When a product name or price changes, edit the text and regenerate only that line.
