Make an Image Background Transparent in One Click: A PNG Ready for Stores, Logos and Design
Make an image background transparent in one click and save it as PNG: PNG vs JPG, tips for hair and fine edges, and what to do with the cutout next.
In this article
To make an image background transparent in Vocla, open Images, choose Remove background, upload your photo and press the button. You get the subject alone on a transparent PNG, in the same shape as your photo, with fine edges such as hair kept. It costs 300 credits per image from Starter, failed attempts are free, and save it as PNG, because JPG has no transparency.
01How to make an image background transparent in one click
You want your product without the table under it, your logo without the white box around it, or a portrait you can drop onto a new design. It is all the same job: making the background transparent. It used to mean tracing edges with a selection tool and an hour of fiddling around hair and fabric. Now AI finds the main subject and removes everything else.
- 1Open Images in the sidebar: in the Vocla web app, on phone or desktop.
- 2Choose the Remove background tab: at the top of the composer.
- 3Upload the photo: JPEG, PNG or WebP, or pick one of your studio images.
- 4Press Remove background: no selecting or manual cropping.
- 5Download: a PNG with the subject alone on a transparent background, same shape as your photo, never cropped.
The tool keeps the subject as it is: its colours, any printed text and fine edges like hair. If it doesn't work, no credits are taken. Every result is saved in your studio gallery so you can edit or reuse it later.

The most common complaint: «I removed the background, but when I saved it, it turned white again.» The cause is almost always the format. Transparency needs an alpha channel, an extra value for every pixel saying how visible it is. JPG has no alpha channel, so any transparent area becomes a solid colour, usually white or black.
| Format | Transparency? | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | Yes, full alpha | Logos, product cutouts, stickers and design assets |
| JPG / JPEG | No | Photos with a full background, smaller files |
| WebP | Yes | Website images, smaller than PNG |
| GIF | Partly: each pixel fully on or fully off | Simple animations; not recommended for cutouts |
How do you know a file is really transparent? Most apps show transparent areas as a grey and white checkerboard. Those squares aren't part of the image; they are the app's way of saying «nothing here». A viewer with a white canvas will make it look white, which is normal. The real test is placing it over a colour or another photo.
Mind the file size: a transparent PNG is usually larger than a JPG of the same dimensions, because it keeps every detail without lossy compression. That rarely matters for logos and stickers, but for large website images, WebP keeps transparency at a smaller size.
Some apps convert images to JPG when you share them, which flattens the transparency. Send the PNG as a document or file when the app allows it, or move it by cable or cloud storage.
Per MDN Web Docs' image file type guide as of October 2026: JPEG has no alpha channel, PNG and WebP support transparency, and GIF supports only binary transparency (each pixel fully transparent or fully opaque).
03Hair, fur and fine edges: tips for a clean cutout
Hair, fur, the edges of a shemagh or scarf and clear glass are what give away a weak cutout. The tool handles them with soft edges, but your original photo makes a big difference. Practical tips:
- Contrast: dark hair against a light wall separates more cleanly than dark against dark.
- Even light: a hard shadow behind the subject can be read as part of it.
- Sharp focus: a shaky photo has blurry edges to begin with.
- Don't crop tight: leave room around hair and shoulders; the tool keeps your framing.
- One main subject: the tool keeps the main subject, so five overlapping people may not give what you expect.
- Glass and liquids: clear bottles are hard for any tool; shoot them on a plain contrasting colour.
If your photo is small or soft, run Enhance first to bring it to 2K, then remove the background from the sharper version. The edges come out cleaner because the tool sees more detail. That adds 400 credits, so save it for images that matter, such as a main product shot or a logo.

Sometimes there is no photo yet and you want a logo, sticker or icon on a transparent background from scratch. Use Create with Vox Image Pro and switch on Transparent background: the image comes out as a PNG with no background, no separate removal step. Pro costs 650 credits per image and is also the strongest at Arabic text, which suits logos with a name.
Simple logo for a coffee roastery, a coffee bean drawn in thin gold lines, with bold modern Arabic lettering beneath: «محمصة النخلة», brown and gold, clean flat design«Al Nakhla Roastery»
Cartoon sticker of a smiling Arabic coffee cup with a thick white outline, and rounded playful lettering above it: «صباح الخير»«Good morning»
Quoted text is drawn letter for letter, so proofread before generating. Ask for 2 to 4 images per run and keep the cleanest.
Which route when? If the subject already exists in a real photo, such as your product, your portrait or a printed logo you photographed, Remove background is cheaper and more faithful. If you are designing something that doesn't exist yet, generating a transparent image with Pro saves a whole step.

A transparent image is rarely the end product; it is a piece you place into something else. The usual uses:
- Product listings: every product on the same clean white background.
- Stickers: yourself or a character as a chat sticker, or printed on a mug or T-shirt.
- Logos: on letterheads, invoices and over your posts and videos.
- Thumbnails: your cutout over a coloured background next to a big Arabic headline.
- Presentations: product or team photos without awkward white boxes.
- New scenes: the subject on a completely different background, such as marble or a landmark.
For that last one there is a shortcut: on Creator and above, skip the cutout and use Edit directly, with a line like «place the product on white marble by a sunny window, keep the product as it is». If you are compositing by hand in a design tool, the transparent PNG is the file you need.
06Common problems after removing a background
| Problem | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The background turned white after saving | Saved or shared as JPG | Keep and send it as PNG, or as a file |
| A faint halo around hair | Original background close to the hair colour | Shoot on a contrasting background, or enhance first |
| Part of the subject vanished | That part matches the background, or is out of focus | Better contrast and sharper focus |
| Some background is left | A second object touching the subject | A photo of the subject alone, or clear the clutter |
| Rough edges on a small image | Low original resolution | Enhance to 2K before removing |
If a result disappoints, try another photo from the same shoot instead of rerunning the same one. The difference is usually in the source photo, not the tool.
07Cost and which plan you need
Remove background is available from Starter at $4.99 a month and on every higher plan. At 300 credits per image on current settings, Starter's 5,000 credits make about 16 cutouts, Creator's 15,000 about 50 and Professional's 80,000 about 266, if you spend them on nothing else. Credits are shared with voice and video, and commercial use is included from Starter.
Free and Basic don't include the image studio. If you want to place the subject in a new scene with one sentence, that uses Edit, which starts on Creator at $13.99.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a background transparent on my phone?
Open Vocla in your phone's browser, go to Images and then Remove background, upload the photo from your gallery and press the button. The result downloads as a transparent PNG.
Why does my transparent image show a white or black background?
It was saved or shared as JPG, which can't store transparency, or the viewer displays transparency as a solid colour. Keep the PNG and place it over another colour to check.
Is background removal free in Vocla?
It is available from Starter at $4.99 a month and costs 300 credits per image. No credits are taken if it fails.
Does it keep hair and fine details?
Yes, it keeps fine edges such as hair and fabric fringes. Results are cleanest when the photo is sharp and the original background contrasts with the subject.
Is a transparent PNG the same as a background remover result?
Yes. Removing the background and making it transparent are the same job, and the result is a PNG with a transparent background you can place over any design.
