Quick answer

A good Egyptian Arabic voiceover script is written the way Egyptians talk, not the way Arabic is written: عايز for want, دلوقتي for now, كده for like this, إزاي for how, and مش for not. Keep sentences short, spell numbers and prices as words, leave ج and ق in their normal spelling, preview with an Egyptian voice and fix any slips with tashkeel or a pronunciation dictionary.

01Why an Egyptian script needs its own writing

Most Egyptian Arabic scripts we see started life as Modern Standard Arabic with a few words swapped. اطلب الآن (order now) becomes اطلب دلوقتي, and the rest of the sentence stays formal. Read by an Egyptian voice, the result sounds like a newsreader trying to be casual. Egyptian listeners notice in the first second, even if they could not tell you why.

An AI voice reads exactly what you give it. Give it real Masri (Egyptian colloquial Arabic) and an Egyptian voice sounds warm and natural. Give it half formal, half colloquial text and it sounds stitched together. So if you searched for an Egyptian voice generator, the honest answer is that the voice is only half the job; the script is the other half.

This guide covers both halves: the sounds that set Egyptian apart and how to spell them, the vocabulary that makes an ad feel Egyptian, before-and-after rewrites from MSA, five copy-ready scripts, and the exact steps to generate an Egyptian voiceover in Vocla. 02Spelling ج, ق and ث for an Egyptian voice

Four sound changes do most of the work of making speech Egyptian. The good news: you usually do not need to change the spelling. An Egyptian voice knows that جميل (beautiful) is said gameel. You do need to know the rules, so you can spot and fix the odd slip quickly.

  • ج is a hard g: جديد (new), جنيه (pound) and جامد (great) all take the Egyptian g. Write a normal ج. Avoid exotic letters such as ﭼ; they confuse the reading more than they help.
  • ق is a glottal stop in everyday words: قال (he said) is said aal, قلب (heart) is alb. Words like القاهرة (Cairo), القرآن and قانون (law) keep the q. Write ق, listen, and if an everyday word comes out formal, try spelling it with a hamza (آل).
  • ث becomes t or s: تلاتة (three), كتير (a lot) and تمن (price) use t. These are colloquial words, so write them as they are said: تلاتة, not ثلاثة.
  • ذ becomes d or z: ده, دي and كده (this, like this) are written with د. ذوق (taste) is said zoo'. Spell colloquial words with د.
Tip

Rule of thumb: spell purely colloquial words the Egyptian way (تلاتة, كده, دلوقتي) and leave words with a formal root in their usual spelling, then preview. If a product or brand name comes out wrong, add it once to Vocla's pronunciation dictionary and every voice in your workspace will say it the same way.

Egyptian also shortens long vowels before two consonants, so بابها (her door) is said shorter than in MSA. The Egyptian voice handles this on its own. Do not try to spell it out, and keep tashkeel for words that could be read two ways.

03Words and phrases that make an ad sound Egyptian

The table lists the words that come up most in ads, social videos and IVR, with their natural Egyptian equivalent. Usage varies between Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt and across generations, so treat it as a starting point and run your script past an Egyptian reader before it goes live.

Egyptian advertising also has its own stock phrases. Use them instead of translating English copy:

  • إلحق (catch it): إلحق العرض قبل ما يخلص (grab the offer before it ends) hits harder than a literal don't miss the chance.
  • متفوّتش (don't miss): the correct Egyptian negative, rather than the formal لا تفوّت.
  • لحد باب البيت (right to your door): the natural way to promise delivery.
  • بأقل من (for less than): بأقل من تمن فنجان قهوة, for less than the price of a cup of coffee.
  • خلّيك معانا (stay with us): the Egyptian sign-off for a video or episode.
  • على طول (straight away, always): بيوصلك على طول, it reaches you right away.
Heads-up

Negation gives translations away fastest. Egyptian puts مش before adjectives and nouns (مش غالي, not expensive) and wraps verbs in مـ...ش (متقلقش, don't worry). A formal لا تقلق in an Egyptian script breaks the spell.

04From MSA to Masri: before and after

A good rewrite is not word-for-word substitution. You restate the idea the way an Egyptian would say it to a friend, without losing the information. Three examples:

Modern Standard Arabic

هل تبحث عن شقة قريبة من عملك؟ لدينا وحدات جاهزة للسكن بأسعار مناسبة.

Egyptian

بتدوّر على شقة قريبة من شغلك؟ عندنا شقق جاهزة تسكن فيها على طول، وبأسعار معقولة.

Modern Standard Arabic

لا تقلق بشأن التوصيل، فطلبك سيصل خلال ثلاثين دقيقة.

Egyptian

متقلقش من التوصيل، طلبك هيوصلك في نص ساعة.

Modern Standard Arabic

في هذا الفيديو سنشرح لكم كيف تبدؤون مشروعكم الأول خطوة بخطوة.

Egyptian

في الفيديو ده هنشرح لكم إزاي تبدأوا أول مشروع ليكم، خطوة بخطوة.

Notice that thirty minutes became نص ساعة (half an hour). That is not just shorter; it is how Egyptians count time, along with ربع ساعة (a quarter of an hour). In the first example the formal ready for living became تسكن فيها على طول (move in straight away): the meaning drives the wording, not the dictionary.

06Numbers, prices and English words

Numbers cause more Egyptian voiceover retakes than anything else. 99 ج.م can be read several ways, so write it as you want it heard: بتسعة وتسعين جنيه. The same goes for percentages: write خصم تلاتين في المية instead of 30% if you want the Egyptian way of saying it.

  • Prices: spell out the currency (جنيه, جنيه ونص for one and a half pounds) instead of symbols like ج.م.
  • Dates: يوم خمستاشر (the fifteenth) sounds more natural in an ad than a full date, and لحد آخر الشهر (until the end of the month) is clearer still.
  • Phone numbers: split them into groups with commas so the voice breathes between them.
  • English words: keep brand and app names in Latin letters, such as iPhone. The voice reads them the way Egyptians say them mid-sentence.
  • Arabised loanwords: الأوفر (the offer), الديليفري (delivery) and الكاش باك (cashback) are common in Egyptian ads. If your audience says them, write them in Arabic letters as pronounced.

For a campaign with recurring product names, add them to the pronunciation dictionary once and every project reads them consistently. A cost note: tashkeel marks are never counted toward Vocla credits, so you can vowel tricky words freely.

07How to generate an Egyptian voiceover in Vocla

  1. 1Read it aloud first: Any line that feels heavy in your mouth will feel heavy to the listener. Fix it before you generate.
  2. 2Open Text to speech: Paste the script, choose Egyptian in the dialect picker, then pick an Egyptian voice from the Voice library by the tone you want.
  3. 3Preview and listen: Focus on ق, numbers and product names. Fix anything off with tashkeel or the Pronunciation dictionary.
  4. 4Tune the delivery: Adjust speed, expressiveness and clarity. Ads want energy; IVR wants calm and clarity.
  5. 5Download: MP3 on every plan, WAV on paid plans. For a full video, use the Video studio with the same voice and burned-in Arabic captions.

The Free plan includes 500 credits a month for personal use and testing. For ads or any commercial use, the Starter plan at $4.99 a month includes 5,000 credits and commercial rights; Egyptian visitors see prices in EGP, and you are charged in USD. Key takeaways

  • Write Egyptian scripts the way people speak: عايز, دلوقتي, كده, إزاي, with مش and مـ...ش for negation.
  • Leave ج and ق in their usual spelling and preview; spell purely colloquial words such as تلاتة and كده the Egyptian way.
  • Spell numbers and prices as words, keep brand names in Latin letters, and use the pronunciation dictionary for repeats.
  • In Vocla, pick Egyptian in the dialect picker, choose an Egyptian voice, preview, fix pronunciation, then download.

Frequently asked questions

Should I write ق or a hamza in an Egyptian script?

Start with ق. An Egyptian voice usually says everyday words with the glottal stop on its own. If a specific word comes out with a formal q, try spelling it with a hamza (آل for قال) or fix it in the pronunciation dictionary.

Can an Egyptian voice read an MSA script?

Yes, but it will sound like an Egyptian reading formal Arabic, closer to a news bulletin. For an ad or social video that feels genuinely Egyptian, the script itself has to be written in Egyptian.

What is the easiest way to get an Egyptian Arabic AI voice?

Write or paste your script in Egyptian Arabic, choose Egyptian in Vocla's dialect picker and pick an Egyptian voice, then preview and download. You can try it on the Free plan, which includes 500 credits a month.

Is Egyptian Arabic understood outside Egypt?

Yes. Egyptian is one of the most widely understood Arabic dialects thanks to decades of Egyptian film and television. Local ads in Saudi Arabia or the UAE still tend to land better in the country's own dialect.

How many words fit in a 30-second Egyptian ad?

Roughly 55 to 65 words at a natural pace, since Egyptian is spoken a little faster than MSA. Time it by reading aloud or preview it in Vocla and trim before you download.
