Kuwaiti Dialect Voiceover Scripts: Key Words, Spelling for TTS and Five Ready Ads
How to write a Kuwaiti dialect voiceover script: the words that set Kuwaiti apart from Saudi and Emirati, spelling for TTS, and five copy-ready ad scripts.
In this article
To write a Kuwaiti dialect voiceover script, open with words Kuwaitis recognise instantly, such as شلونكم (how are you all), شنو (what), وايد (a lot), خوش (great), أكو and ماكو (there is, there isn't) and انطر (wait), keep sentences short with one call to action, remove Saudi or Emirati giveaways like وش, شو and مب, and test special spellings such as چ in the preview.
01What makes an ad sound genuinely Kuwaiti
Kuwaiti listeners pick up on dialect fast. An ad in generic Gulf Arabic will be understood, but it won't make anyone feel it was made for them. What makes the difference isn't stuffing in local words; it is placing two or three in the right spots: a Kuwaiti greeting up front, a familiar word in the middle of the offer, and a call to action with a Kuwaiti feel at the end.
This guide collects the markers that separate Kuwaiti from Saudi and Emirati, explains how to spell them so a generated voice says them the way you want, and gives five ready scripts for retail, restaurants, services, apps and National Day. For the full picture of Arabic dialects in voiceover:
02Kuwaiti words that make the difference
| Meaning | Kuwaiti | In an ad |
|---|---|---|
| How are you all | شلونكم؟ | شلونكم؟ عندنا لكم خبر حلو (how are you all? we have good news) |
| What | شنو، شنهو | شنو تنطر؟ (what are you waiting for?) |
| There is / isn't | أكو، ماكو | ماكو أحسن من جذي (nothing beats this) |
| Great, good | خوش، زين | عرض خوش (a great offer) |
| A lot, very | وايد، حيل | حلو حيل (really nice) |
| Not | مو | السعر مو غالي (the price isn't high) |
| Wait | انطر | لا تنطر وايد (don't wait too long) |
| Like this | جذي (said with ch) | سهلة جذي (it's that easy) |
| Here | هني | كل اللي تبيه هني (everything you want is here) |
| Kids | اليهال | عرض خاص لليهال (a special offer for kids) |
| Homeland | الديرة | الله لا يغير علينا هالديرة (may God keep this land as it is) |
One more word worth knowing: ترى. It means take note or heads up, and opens a line to grab attention, as in ترى العرض لين باچر بس (heads up, the offer only runs until tomorrow). It is one of the most natural words in Kuwaiti advertising because it sounds like someone talking to you, not reading an ad.
Usage varies by area and generation in Kuwait. Treat the table as a starting point and play the final script to a Kuwaiti listener before publishing.
03Kuwaiti vs Saudi and Emirati
The most common mistake in ads for Kuwait is a trace of the writer's own dialect left in the script. These are the words that give a country away instantly:
| Meaning | Saudi (Riyadh) | Emirati | Kuwaiti |
|---|---|---|---|
| What | وش | شو | شنو |
| How are you | كيفك، وشلونك | شحالك | شلونك |
| Not | مو، مهب | مب | مو |
| There is | فيه | فيه | أكو |
| A lot | مرّة، واجد | وايد | وايد، حيل |
| Wait | انتظر | تريّا | انطر |
| Came | جا | يا | يا |
ماذا تنتظر؟ لا يوجد عرض أفضل من هذا، فاطلب الآن.
شنو تنطر؟ ماكو عرض أحسن من جذي، اطلب الحين.
Both lines mean: what are you waiting for? There's no better offer than this, order now. If your ad will run in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on one budget, a neutral white Gulf style that drops شنو, ماكو and انطر may suit you better. We cover when that works and when it costs you:
04Spelling Kuwaiti sounds for text to speech
Kuwaiti has sounds that standard spelling doesn't show, and writers spell them in different ways. Three need your attention:
- ك said as ch: as in چذي (like this) and چم (how many). Many write them with ج (جذي, جم), others with چ. Try both in the preview and keep whichever the voice says correctly.
- ج said as y: as in يا (came), ريّال (man), دياي (chicken) and يهال (kids). Spell them with ي the way they are said; spelling them with ج will make the voice say a j.
- ق said as g: as in گاعد (sitting) and گلب (heart). Gulf voices say ق this way in many words even when spelled with ق, so write ق and listen.
The golden rule: what matters is the sound that comes out, not the letter on the page. If a word sounds wrong, try another spelling, double-click it in Vocla to hear its possible readings, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary if it is a brand or area name.
Don't spell English product names with Gulf letters such as گ or چ. Write برجر, not برگر, let the voice read it the way people say it, and fix it in the pronunciation dictionary if needed.
05Five copy-ready Kuwaiti ad scripts
Each script reads in 15 to 30 seconds. Replace the bracketed parts and cut anything that doesn't fit your offer.

عيد وطني سعيد، وعيد تحرير سعيد.
الله لا يغير علينا هالديرة.From [Company], may Kuwait be well every year. Happy National Day and happy Liberation Day. May God keep this homeland as it is for us.
The car wash script is deliberately heavier on dialect than the others: نيي (we come), گاعد (sitting), چنها (as if it were) and يديدة (new) all land in three lines, because it speaks to a purely Kuwaiti audience in the diwaniya setting. The telecom script is lighter because its audience is broader. National Day falls on 25 February and Liberation Day on 26 February, the biggest Kuwaiti advertising moment of the year.
06Building a 30-second Kuwaiti ad
At a natural pace a voice says about two words a second, so a 30-second ad holds roughly 60 words including pauses. Split them like this:
| Part | Time | Approx. words | Kuwaiti example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hook | First 5 seconds | About 10 | شلونكم؟ عندنا لكم خبر حلو! (how are you all? we have good news!) |
| Offer | 5 to 22 seconds | About 35 | The discount, the product and one reason to buy |
| Call to action | Last 8 seconds | About 15 | مرّونا الحين… وترى العرض لين باچر بس (drop by now, the offer ends tomorrow) |
Kuwaiti ads welcome a light touch of humour, within limits: a small joke or a diwaniya-style aside brings the ad closer, while overdoing it sounds like an impression. When the ad speaks to a woman, every pronoun turns feminine, often ending in چ:
شلونچ؟ تبين بشرتچ تلمع قبل العرس؟
جلسات العناية عندنا عليها خصم خاص هالشهر.
احجزي الحين من التطبيق… وترى المواعيد وايد عليها طلب.How are you? Want your skin glowing before the wedding? Our care sessions have a special discount this month. Book now in the app, and heads up, appointments are in high demand.
07From script to voice in Vocla
- 1Paste the script: on the Text to speech screen, after filling in the brackets.
- 2Choose Kuwaiti: in the dialect picker, then a voice from the Voice library that matches the ad's tone.
- 3Tune the delivery: energetic ads want more expressiveness or Boost; apps and services want more clarity.
- 4Check the special sounds: listen for چ and ي-for-ج words, and try the alternative spelling if needed.
- 5Generate, listen, download: regenerate only the lines you don't like, then export MP3, or WAV on paid plans.
Before generating, check the script fits the slot. This calculator estimates duration from word count and pace:

For a Kuwaiti video ad for your product, upload the product photo to the Ad maker and pick Kuwaiti: it writes the script in Kuwaiti with your price and offer, voices it with a Kuwaiti voice and builds the scenes from your photo.

- A word from another dialect: وش, شو or مب inside a Kuwaiti script breaks the whole effect.
- Too many local markers: چ, گ and ي in every word is hard on the writer and the voice, and sounds like an impression. Place markers where they serve the message.
- Long sentences: good Kuwaiti ads are quick and light; a long sentence buries the call to action.
- Several calls to action: call, order, visit and download in one ad scatters the listener; pick one.
- Publishing without a Kuwaiti listener: one minute of local review catches what no list will.
You can test every script here on Vocla's Free plan with 500 credits a month. Commercial use in a real ad starts on Starter at $4.99 a month for 5,000 credits, enough for about eight 30-second ads.
The Kuwaiti described here reflects common urban usage in modern media as of October 2026; speech varies by area, community and generation. Check the final script with a Kuwaiti speaker before publishing.
Key takeaways
- Words like شلونكم, شنو, خوش, أكو, ماكو, انطر and ترى give an ad an unmistakably Kuwaiti feel.
- Remove every trace of other dialects such as وش, شو and مب; one stray word gives the game away.
- Spell ي-for-ج words as they sound, test چ against ج in the preview, and keep English product names in plain spelling.
- On Vocla, choose Kuwaiti in the dialect picker and regenerate any weak line on its own.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Kuwaiti and Saudi in an ad?
The small words: شنو instead of وش, أكو and ماكو instead of فيه and ما فيه, انطر instead of انتظر, and ي for ج in words like يا and يهال. One of these is enough for listeners to place the country.
Should I write جذي, چذي or كذا?
جذي and چذي are both used for the same Kuwaiti word, while كذا is the Saudi form. Try both Kuwaiti spellings in the preview, keep the one the voice says correctly, and stay consistent.
Is Kuwaiti understood elsewhere in the Gulf?
Yes, Kuwaiti is understood across the Gulf. If the same ad will run in several countries, a neutral white Gulf style will feel closer to everyone.
When should I advertise for Kuwait National Day?
National Day is 25 February and Liberation Day is 26 February, and ads usually cover both. Prepare the script and audio early enough to review it with a Kuwaiti listener.
Does Vocla have Kuwaiti voices?
Yes. Choose Kuwaiti in the dialect picker on the Text to speech screen and test it on the Free plan before subscribing.
