Quick answer

A good Saudi dialect script starts from speech, not from Modern Standard Arabic. Write each line the way it is said in Riyadh, with Najdi words such as الحين (now), وش (what), أبي (I want), مرّة (very) and يمديك (there's still time), in short one-verb sentences. Avoid Jeddah words like دحين and إيش, spell numbers as spoken, then check the preview and fix names in a pronunciation dictionary.

01Why Saudi scripts end up sounding translated

Most weak Saudi scripts contain no actual mistakes. Every word is a real Saudi word. Yet a Riyadh listener hears something off within a second. The usual cause: the writer thought in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and then swapped a few dialect words on top. You get a long, formal sentence with الحين dropped into the middle, which is neither MSA nor Saudi.

One clarification before we start: Vocla's Saudi voices are Najdi, the sound of Riyadh and central Saudi Arabia. Every example here is Najdi. Jeddah and Hijazi words appear only as vocabulary to avoid when your voice is Najdi. These are the mistakes that come up most:

  • MSA word order: نحن في شركة كذا نقدم لكم أفضل العروض (we at company X offer you the best deals) stays formal even if you swap one verb. Start with the listener instead: تدوّر عرض زين؟ عندنا لك (looking for a good deal? we've got you).
  • Long sentences: natural Saudi ad copy runs in short lines, one idea and one verb each.
  • Mixed dialects: إيش and دحين are Jeddah, وايد leans Kuwaiti and Emirati, شلون is Kuwaiti. One of them is enough to make a Najdi listener feel the voice is not from here.
  • Overdoing it: stuffing every line with يا رجّال, والله and ترى turns an ad into a sketch. Put the dialect in key words and keep the rest plain.
  • Formal numbers: بمئة وتسعة وتسعين ريالًا instead of the spoken بمية وتسعة وتسعين ريال. Numbers are among the fastest giveaways of a translated script.

02Core Najdi vocabulary for a Saudi dialect script

This table covers the words that recur in ads, social clips and IVR. The last column lists words that are perfectly real elsewhere but break the Najdi feel if they slip into a script read by a Riyadh voice.

A few small words give a script its character without overacting: ترى as a heads-up (ترى العرض يخلص الخميس, heads up, the offer ends Thursday), يا هلا and حيّاك as welcomes, خلّك for stay (خلّك معنا, stay with us), تدوّر for looking for, and دوام for work hours or the job. Use one or two in a short ad, no more.

Heads-up

أبغى is not wrong in Saudi Arabia and you will hear it in many places, but it leans toward Jeddah. In a clearly Najdi script write أبي and تبي. In a general Saudi script for a Kingdom-wide campaign, skip the want verb and use an imperative such as اطلب الحين (order now).

03Spelling Saudi words so an AI voice reads them right

A voice reads exactly what you type, so spelling in a Saudi script is a pronunciation decision, not a matter of taste. These rules come straight from ad scripts:

  • Keep ق as ق: Najdi speakers say it as a hard g in many words, but writing گ is unfamiliar and can trip the reading. Write قهوة and قريب normally and check the preview.
  • Spell numbers as spoken: 20% may be read in MSA, while عشرين بالمية comes out Saudi. Same for prices: بتسعة وتسعين ريال.
  • Mark ambiguous words: مرّة (very) and مَرة (woman) look alike. Add the shadda or tashkeel where meaning changes. In Vocla, diacritics never count toward credits.
  • Leave English names in Latin letters: brand and app names inside an Arabic sentence are read the way people actually say them.
  • Stay consistent: if you write ترى, do not switch to ترا two lines later; if you write وش, never ويش. Consistent spelling means consistent pronunciation.

Product names, neighbourhoods and people's names are where every voice stumbles. Rather than respelling them in each script, add them once to the Pronunciation dictionary and they are read the same way across every project in your workspace. For more on writing Arabic that reads naturally:

04MSA to Saudi: three before-and-after rewrites

The fastest way to learn the rewrite is to see it. Notice that the Saudi version does not translate word for word; it restates the idea the way people say it.

Modern Standard Arabic

اطلب الآن واحصل على خصم عشرين بالمئة على جميع المنتجات.

Saudi (Najdi)

اطلب الحين وخذ خصم عشرين بالمية على كل المنتجات.

Modern Standard Arabic

هل تبحث عن شقة قريبة من مكان عملك؟ لدينا ما تريده.

Saudi (Najdi)

تدوّر شقة قريبة من دوامك؟ عندنا اللي تبيه.

Modern Standard Arabic

لا تفوّت الفرصة، فالعرض ينتهي يوم الخميس.

Saudi (Najdi)

لا يفوتك، ترى العرض يخلص يوم الخميس.

When the ad speaks to a woman, verb endings and pronouns change in almost every line: تبين (you want), تدوّرين (you're looking for), and عندك with a kasra on the ك. The old Najdi form عندتس is rare in modern ads, so keep it for deliberately heritage-style content.

Modern Standard Arabic

هل تبحثين عن هدية مميزة؟ لدينا تشكيلة ستعجبكِ كثيرًا.

Saudi (Najdi), feminine

تدوّرين هدية مميزة؟ عندنا تشكيلة بتعجبك مرّة.

The pattern in all three: drop formal connectors such as فـ, لدينا and جميع, turn the question into direct speech, and pick the verb people really use, تدوّر rather than تبحث (search) and يخلص rather than ينتهي (end). If you brief a copywriter, give them this rule rather than a word list.

05Five Saudi scripts you can copy

Copy any script, change the name and price, and paste it into Vocla. Each is written for a Najdi voice and runs roughly 10 to 20 seconds.

Tip

For a Kingdom-wide campaign, reread the script for heavy Najdi words that might sound odd in Jeddah or the Eastern Province and swap them for general Saudi ones. الحين, زين and عشان are understood and accepted everywhere.

06Length and rhythm: how many words per duration?

Natural Saudi copy is read at roughly two words per second, with a short breath after each sentence. Word count matters more than line count, and a crowded ad loses its character because the voice has to rush. Use this as a starting point:

DurationApprox. wordsSentences
6 seconds12 wordsone or two
15 seconds30 words3
30 seconds60 words5 to 6
60 seconds120 wordsabout 10
  • Hook: the first two seconds carry a question or a short punchy line, such as جوعان؟ (hungry?) or تدري وش؟ (you know what?).
  • Middle: one clear piece of information, the price, the offer or the benefit, not three stacked together.
  • Close: one call to action with an imperative, اطلب الحين, كلّمنا or حمّل التطبيق (order now, call us, download the app).

07From script to Saudi voice in Vocla

A strong script is half the job; the other half is a voice that reads it with the right accent. In Vocla the dialect picker steers the voice to a native Najdi accent, so your Saudi script does not drift into Egyptian or Levantine even with a multi-dialect voice.

  1. 1Paste the script: open Text to speech and paste up to 10,000 characters per generation.
  2. 2Pick Saudi in the dialect picker: then choose a voice from the Voice library filtered to Saudi and play the samples.
  3. 3Fix pronunciation: run auto-tashkeel on ambiguous words, review each change, and add brand names to the Pronunciation dictionary.
  4. 4Shape the delivery: speed, clarity and expressiveness sliders, plus Boost for high-energy promos.
  5. 5Generate and export: MP3 on every plan, WAV with commercial rights on paid plans.

The Free plan includes 500 credits a month for testing and personal use. If the ad is for a client or a brand, Starter at $4.99 a month adds 5,000 credits and commercial rights. More on Saudi voices and how to generate them:

Vocabulary and examples reflect common urban usage in Riyadh and central Saudi Arabia in modern media as of October 2026; speech varies by city, generation and speaker. Vocla's Saudi voices are Najdi; separate Hijazi or southern Saudi voices are not currently offered.

Key takeaways

  • Write Saudi from speech, not from MSA: short lines, one verb each, and words like الحين, وش, أبي and يمديك.
  • Do not mix Najdi with Jeddah or Kuwaiti words such as دحين, إيش and وايد; one is enough to break the feel.
  • Spell numbers and prices as spoken, mark ambiguous words, and save names in the Pronunciation dictionary.
  • In Vocla, picking Saudi in the dialect picker reads your script in a Najdi accent; start free, then Starter at $4.99 for commercial use.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Najdi and Hijazi in a script?

Najdi says الحين, وش and أبي; Hijazi (Jeddah) says دحين, إيش and أبغى. Vocla's Saudi voices are Najdi, so write Najdi vocabulary, or general Saudi words for a Kingdom-wide campaign.

Will the voice turn my MSA script into Saudi automatically?

No. Choosing Saudi sets the accent and pronunciation, but the words must already be Saudi. If you write الآن it will say الآن, so write الحين.

How should I write the ق that Saudis say as g?

Write a normal ق and check the preview. The letter گ is unfamiliar in writing and can confuse the reading; if a specific word needs adjusting, add it to the Pronunciation dictionary.

How many words fit in a 15-second Saudi ad?

About 30 words at a natural pace, since Saudi Arabic is read at roughly two words per second plus short pauses between sentences. Cut anything that does not serve the message and listen before exporting.

Can I use the voiceover commercially?

Yes, on paid plans starting with Starter at $4.99 a month. The Free plan is for personal use only and does not include commercial rights.
