How to Create a Two-Voice Dialogue with AI, Mixed into One File
Create an AI dialogue with two voices in one file: script format, voice pairing across Arabic dialects, delivery styles, pauses and ready-to-use scripts.
In this article
To create an AI dialogue with two voices, write the script one turn per line as “Name: line” and paste it into Vocla's Text to dialogue. Vocla finds each speaker, you cast a voice for each and set a delivery style and pause per line, then it voices every line, evens out the loudness and mixes the whole conversation into one audio file.
01What an AI dialogue with two voices actually involves
The old way to build a two-voice conversation: generate every line separately, download twenty files, drop them onto a timeline, nudge the gaps and try to level the voices so one isn't louder than the other. An hour of fiddling for a one-minute exchange.
Vocla's Text to dialogue collapses that. You write the whole conversation in one place, cast a voice per speaker and set how each line is delivered. Vocla voices every line in its speaker's voice, trims and levels each take, and lays them on one timeline with the pauses you chose. The player highlights each line as it plays, so you can spot what needs a tweak.
Dialogue is a mode of text to speech, so it uses the same voices, pronunciation dictionary, number reading and credits. A name you taught Vocla to pronounce is said the same way in every line.
| Use | Example | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| Skit-style ad | A customer asks, a shop assistant answers | 20 to 40 seconds |
| E-learning role play | A new hire practises a workplace situation | 1 to 3 minutes |
| Customer-service training | A sample call between agent and customer | 1 to 2 minutes |
| Podcast intro | Two hosts welcome listeners | 20 to 45 seconds |
02The script format: Name, colon, line
One line per turn, starting with the speaker's name, a colon, then what they say. Paste a whole script and every speaker is detected. A line with no name continues the previous speaker.
نورة: صباح الخير، وش أخبارك اليوم؟
فهد (calm): الحمد لله، بس الدوام اليوم طويل شوي.
نورة: [excited] عندي لك خبر بيعدّل يومك!
فهد: وشو؟ قولي بسرعة.Noura: Morning! How's your day going? Fahad (calm): Fine, thank God, just a long day at work. Noura: [excited] I've got news that'll fix your day! Fahad: What is it? Tell me, quick.
There are two ways to add a delivery style: in parentheses after the name, like (calm), or in square brackets before the text, like [excited]. Seven styles are available, set line by line:
| Style | When to use it |
|---|---|
| natural | Most lines; the default |
| excited | Announcing an offer or good news |
| calm | Reassuring a customer, explaining a step |
| whisper | A little secret or a comic beat in an ad |
| serious | A security warning or key information |
| happy | Welcomes and thank-yous |
| sad | Describing the problem before the fix |
Use styles sparingly. A whisper or an excited line stands out because the lines around it are natural. If every line is excited, nothing is. How strongly a style comes through also depends on the voice and the line.
Limits are generous: up to 200 lines per script and 2,000 characters per line. To skip the blank page, start from one of four templates in Arabic and English: podcast intro, radio ad, customer call and interview.

Conversational ads work because they sound like a real moment: one person has a problem, the other has the fix. A Saudi radio or audio spot for a fictional mobile car wash, with an announcer closing on the offer:
Sultan: Man, the car's covered in dust and I've got no time to take it to the car wash. Khaled: Why take it? Let them come to you. Sultan: Come to me? How? Khaled: Lamaa! Book in the app and they come right to your door. Sultan: Now that's an idea, booking now. Announcer: Lamaa mobile car wash. 30% off your first wash. Download the app today.
Three things make it work. The lines are short and each reply answers the one before. Styles appear on only three lines: the problem, the fix and the decision. And the announcer is a third, distinct voice, so listeners know where the official offer starts.
هل تريد أن تُغسل سيارتك دون أن تغادر منزلك؟
تبي سيارتك تنغسل وأنت قاعد في البيت؟
Both mean “Want your car washed without leaving home?” In a skit, the Saudi line is the one a friend would actually say.
Dialogue exports as audio. For a video ad, add the mixed file to your edit, or write a single-voice version for Vocla's Video studio.
04Role plays for e-learning and customer-service training
Role plays are one of the strongest teaching tools, but recording them with actors is expensive and every change means another session. With generated dialogue you edit a line and regenerate. An MSA role play for a workplace-skills course with learners of many nationalities:
Trainer: Let's start simple. A colleague is ten minutes late to the meeting. What do you say? Youssef: Maybe: you're very late, you've wasted our time. Trainer: I understand the feeling, but try wording that focuses on the solution. Youssef: OK. Welcome, we've summarised what you missed in the notes, and we're picking up at item three. Trainer: Excellent, that keeps the meeting positive and organised.
For contact-centre onboarding, a sample call lets new agents hear the right tone before their first real customer. An Egyptian call with an upset customer whose order is late:
Customer: I've been waiting a week for my order and nobody answers me! Mona: I'm so sorry, sir, and I'm with you now until it's sorted. Could I have the order number? Customer: Here, it's 3715. Mona: Thank you. It left the warehouse yesterday and will reach you tomorrow before noon. Customer: Then why did nobody tell me? Mona: You're right, and I'm sending you a message with the tracking link right now.
These calls are easy to keep current. When the returns policy or the apology wording changes, edit one line and regenerate with the same voices. If you're building a training library, name files by scenario, such as late-order.mp3 and product-return.mp3.
05Pairing voices and dialects
The golden rule: listeners must know who's speaking without thinking about it. Cast clearly contrasting voices, such as a female and a male voice, or two voices of different ages. If your workspace has brand voices, they're listed first when you cast, so every production keeps the same sound.
| Scenario | Suggested pairing | Dialect |
|---|---|---|
| Local ad in Saudi Arabia | Two male voices with different tones, plus an announcer | Saudi for the characters; Saudi or MSA for the announcer |
| Customer-service training in Egypt | Calm female agent, higher-energy customer | Egyptian for both |
| Course for a pan-Arab audience | Trainer and learner | MSA for both |
| Gulf and Levantine characters | A Saudi or Kuwaiti voice and a Jordanian or Lebanese voice | Each in their own dialect |
Mixing dialects in one dialogue is fine, even useful, when it's deliberate: a Saudi traveller chatting with a Lebanese local in an airline spot, say. Accidental mixing, a character who starts Saudi and drifts into MSA, breaks the illusion. Write each character in their dialect's words and cast a voice from that dialect.
ريم: أهلين! أول مرة بتجي على بيروت؟
فيصل: إيه والله، أول مرة. وش تنصحيني أزور؟
ريم: لازم تمشي عالكورنيش هلّق المسا، كتير حلو.
فيصل: زين، وبعدها نتعشى؟
ريم: أكيد، بعرف محل بيعمل أطيب منقوشة.Reem (Lebanese): Hi! First time in Beirut? Faisal (Saudi): Yes, first time. What do you recommend I see? Reem: You have to walk the Corniche this evening, it's really lovely. Faisal: Great, and dinner after? Reem: Of course, I know a place that makes the best manoushe.
In a mixed dialogue, cast each character from the dialect picker: Reem with a Lebanese voice, Faisal with a Saudi one, so halla' sounds Lebanese and zain sounds Saudi.
06Timing: pauses, gaps and quick replies
A conversation lives in its rhythm. The same words feel dull when slow and flustered when rushed. Vocla gives you three timing controls:
| Control | Range | Suggested use |
|---|---|---|
| Pause after a line | Up to 5 seconds, kept exactly | A beat after a key question or before a punchline |
| Global gap between turns | 0.35 s by default, up to 3 s | Shorter for ads, slightly longer for lessons |
| Quick-reply overlap | A short reply can start up to 150 ms sooner | Replies like “Really?” or “Of course!” |
Give quick reactions their own line instead of burying them in a long one. With quick-reply overlap on, a standalone “Really?” lands a fraction sooner and the exchange feels alive. Each line is voiced separately and then mixed, so speakers never talk over each other beyond that short overlap.
- Ads: short gap, one pause just before the offer line.
- Training: default gap, a one-second pause after questions that need thought.
- Podcasts: a calmer rhythm; the details are in our AI podcast guide.
07Generate, export and what it costs
- 1Add names to the pronunciation dictionary: character and brand names, before you generate, so every line says them the same way.
- 2Generate and listen along: the player highlights each line, so rhythm problems are easy to find.
- 3Fix the line, not the scene: rewording one line or changing its style beats rewriting the dialogue.
- 4Download: one mixed MP3 or WAV file, saved to your Library.
Pricing works exactly like text to speech: credits come from the characters in all lines and the rate of the model you pick, shown before you generate and refunded if a generation fails. For scale, the demo dialogue on the product page was 233 characters and used 280 credits. A roughly 30-second skit ad of about 500 characters needs around 600 credits on the top-quality model, and Starter at $4.99 includes 5,000 credits with commercial rights.
If a line fails twice, the whole generation fails and is refunded; reword or shorten the line and try again. Text to Dialogue isn't on the Free plan; it's included on every paid plan.
If the dialogue is one piece of a larger production with scripts, voice, video and exports, our workflow guide puts the steps in order from idea to final file.
Business names in these scripts (Lamaa and others) are fictional examples and don't refer to real organisations.
Key takeaways
- Write one turn per line as Name: line; a line with no name continues the previous speaker.
- Cast two clearly contrasting voices, each from its character's dialect in the dialect picker.
- Use styles sparingly, pause after questions and before punchlines, and give quick replies their own line.
- Dialogue is priced like text to speech, by characters, and exports as one mixed MP3 or WAV.
Frequently asked questions
How do I format a dialogue script in Vocla?
One line per turn as Name: line. Paste the whole script and every speaker is detected. Add a style in square brackets before the text, like [whisper], or in parentheses after the name, like (calm).
Can each speaker use a different Arabic dialect?
Yes. Cast each character with a voice from their dialect and write their lines in that dialect's words. Deliberate mixing works well in ads and stories; accidental mixing breaks the illusion.
Can the two voices talk over each other?
Only slightly. Each line is voiced separately and mixed, and the only overlap is quick-reply overlap, where a short reply can start up to 150 ms sooner.
How much does an AI dialogue cost?
It's priced like text to speech, by the characters of all lines and the model's rate. The demo on the product page was 233 characters and used 280 credits, and you see the cost before generating.
What file do I get?
One mixed MP3 or WAV file, with loudness evened out across the voices. It's saved to your Library with the rest of your audio.
